• Amplify is a free initiative that aims to empower young students in the design and use of emerging digital environments, with a focus on the metaverse
• The project objectives include identifying student concerns related to internet and metaverse usage, co-designing ethical guidelines and metaverse spaces with students, and evaluating the success of the project
• We are excited to collaborate with Jesus College, Oxford and Youth Can Do I.T. to achieve our goals
• Our methodology involves four phases, beginning with identifying knowledge gaps and ending with evaluation and report production

Key Features

• Co-designing metaverse spaces with students to practically demonstrate ethical guidelines
• Empowering high school students in Jamaica to provide their insights on ethics in digital spaces, with a focus on metaverse ethics
• Providing expert training on metaverse, digital ethics, responsible design, and co-designing to facilitators and students
• Conducting group interviews with facilitators and students to evaluate the success of the project

Through a series of interactive sessions, students will gain valuable knowledge from experts about the metaverse and gain essential skills to safely use this digital space. But that's not all! Students will keep track of their progress by collaborating with fellow students on a document that captures the main takeaways from each session. This document holds tremendous potential as we aim to share its key points with local government and policy-makers in Jamaica. By contributing to shaping the responsible use of digital spaces in their country, students are not just learning; they’re actively influencing the future of technology and fostering a healthier relationship with it. We are excited to collaborate with students to make a mark on Jamaica's digital landscape!  

After the interactive training sessions, our committed facilitators will collaborate with students to apply the knowledge gained from experts in order to collectively design their own metaverse spaces. This collaborative effort will enable students to navigate responsibly and confidently in this digital realm while also empowering them to create inclusive spaces. A key objective of this initiative is to offer students meaningful opportunities to engage with digital technologies while also developing critical thinking, curiosity, and creativity. By actively engaging students in the co-design process of their metaverse spaces, we come closer to guaranteeing that these spaces not only meet their needs effectively but also cultivate a deep sense of connection and ownership.
